This is the one thing that I hear all the time from clients, they want to know what to do to get a six pack or a nice toned mid-section. Everyone one comes to the same conclusion that they just need to know the right number of crunches to do and they will have the toned abs that they dream of.
Sorry. Useless.
Well as a responsible Darien Personal Trainer I have to let them know that they are wasting their time doing tons of crunches. Now listen, I didn’t say that crunches are useless. They are a horribly overdone exercise, but they can have a place in an exercise program. Go back and look at the question … “What do I need to do to get a six pack or toned mid-section” and the answer to that is … lose all the fat that’s covering your muscle.
That’s right, there actually IS muscle under there and removing the “soft padding” that covers it will reveal your muscle, your abs! So the best thing you can do to help you get your six pack is to help you get rid of your abdominal fat, NOT spend countless hours doing crunches.
